Wells turbine efficiency improvements: experimental application of a speed control strategy

چکیده

Abstract Systems based on the OWC principle allow to convert sea-wave energy into electrical energy. The potential contained in wave motion is first converted pneumatic of a bi-directional airflow, generated by oscillatory displacement column water inside chamber. Then, an air turbine, such as Wells placed at top chamber, converts mechanical its shaft, which can be coupled electric motor produce turbine’s performance strongly affected non-stationary behavior continuously changes intensity. Control solutions variation turbine rotational speed overcome this limitation. This work aims study speed-controlled with experimental approach, making use Oscillating Water Column (OWC) simulator. A control law for has been defined and applied order move operating conditions close possible maximum efficiency point, majority piston period. results prove effectiveness proposed strategy moving obtaining best point
